BIA - Negombo

NEGOMBO

Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the west coast and at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, in Western Province, Sri Lanka. Negombo is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka and it is the largest city in Gampaha District. Negombo is also the administrative capital centre of the Negombo Division. It is one of the major commercial hubs in Sri Lanka with about 144,551 inhabitants within city limits. It is approximately 35 km north of Colombo City. Negombo is known for its huge and old fishing industry, with busy fish markets and long, sandy beaches. Negombo is the most westernized, vibrant city and it is one of the major tourist destinations in the country. The main international airport of Sri Lanka is in Negombo Metropolis.

Day 2
Negombo - Chilaw
  • After Breakfast from the hotel and proceed for a day excursion in Chilaw to visit Munishwaram temple & Manavari temple

Munishwaram Temple

It is believed that Munishwaram predates the Ramayana and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was located here. Munishwaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Easwaran). A Shiva Lingam was already here when Lord Rama visited this place. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya with Sita in one of King Ravana’s Vimanas. He felt he was being followed by a Bramhaasthi Dosh

Manavari Temple

When the Vimana was passing over Munishwaram, he felt the Vimana vibrating, and realized the Brahmaasti Dosham was not following him at this particular point. He stopped the Vimana at this juncture and asked god Lord Shiva for advice. Lord Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised installing and praying at four lingams located at Manavari, Thiru Koneshwaram, Thiru Ketheshwaram and Rameshwaram in India as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham. The first lingam was installed at Manavari about 5km from here, near the banks of the Deduru Oya. At the Manavari Temple Chilaw Manavari is the first lingam installed and prayed by Rama and till date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in world named after Lord Rama.

 
Day 3
Negombo - Trincomalee
  • After breakfast from the hotel and proceed to Trincomalee.
  • En route City tour of  Trincomalee including Tirukoneshwaram temple.

Trincomalee - Located on the east coast of the island .The city is built on a peninsula, which divides the inner and outer harbours. In the close vicinity of Trincomalee are some of the finest beaches of Sri Lanka, visit Tirukoneshwaram shrine .The construction time of Koneswaram temple has been estimated by comparison between carved reliefs on the temple's ruins, literature on the shrine and the inscriptions commonly used in royal charters from the 5th to 18th centuries. Koneswaram was likely founded before 400 BCE, another significant factor of the shrine is the Shakthi peedam (Shankari Amman Statue).

   
Day 4
Trincomalee - Kandy
  • After Breakfast from the hotel and proceed to Kandy.

Temple of the tooth relic - Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha.

Kandy – Visit vinayagar Temple at Kandy, gem museum and do a Kandy city tour. Kandy is the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings which is a world heritage site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy lake built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1806, visit the Kandy town and bazaar, the arts and crafts center and a gem museum and lapidary

Day 5
Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
  • After Breakfast from the hotel and proceed to Nuwara Eliya.
  • En route visiting Ramboda hanuman temple & Ramboda water fall.
  • After Lunch at local restaurant proceed Ella to visit Ravana cave temple
  • Dinner and over night stay at Nuwara Elliya Hotel
Ramboda hanuman temple -According to the legend, this is where Hanuman searched for Sita in the jungles above and behind the temple. There is supposed to be a stretch of barren land known as the ‘Chariot Path' on which Ravana took Sita to Ashoka Vatika to showcase the beauty of his kingdom to her. There is also said to be a pond - the ‘Sita Tear Pond' - here, which was formed from Sita's tears. The temple itself is one of the more enterprising establishments devoted to this legend, and contains a granite statue of Lord Hanuman that is said to be over 40 feet tall.It is believed that Lord Hanuman was searching for Sitadevi from these hills of Ramboda. The Ramboda area is believed to be an area where Rama's forces were gathered against Ravana. Ram Padai means Rama's Force. The hills of Ramboda are also believed where Hanuman was searching for Sitadevi.   Places to visit

Nuwara Eliya - Colombo
  • After breakfast from the hotel proceed to Colombo.

Nuwara Eliya - is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka. The town is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka." The city was founded by Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile in 1846. Nuwara Eliya's climate lent itself to becoming the prime sanctuary of the British civil servants and planters in Ceylon. Nuwara Eliya, called Little England. For a picturesque stroll, stop by the well-maintained Victoria Park or head for Gregory’s Lake, which is located just south of the town. You can also hire boats here also visit the international Golf and race courses and proceed to Sitha eliya witness the legendary Sitha Amman temple in the Asoke Vathika ( Ashoke forest ) and visit Gayathri amman temple

Day 7
Colombo
  • After breakfast from the hotel and proceed to do a city tour in Colombo including Panchamuga Ajanyear Temple and Sri ponnambalam vanessa koval.

Panchamuga Ajanyear Temple - This is the first Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka and also the only Panchamuga (five faced) Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka. Its the only temple in the world to have a chariot for Ajanyear.

Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar - Kovil is a sacred Hindu temple made entirely of granite. Located right in the center of Colombo, Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar Kovil flaunts a mesmerizing architectural pattern engraved in grey granite. Devotees from all over the island nation flock to the temple to pay their respects to the presiding deity – Lord Shiva. In the evening, the prayers are accompanied by the playing of Nadaswaram (long flute) and Thavil (percusion instrument). Although cameras are not allowed inside the temple, it still remains a must visit place in Colombo!

Colombo - the commercial and business center of Sri Lanka located on west coast. The city blends together with old colonial type building, high-rise commercial buildings and hotels. It is filled with shopping malls, airline offices bazaars and interesting tourist attractions. Some of the finest structures built during the colonial times still preserved in one part of the City. During the city tour visit BMICH, Colonial style Town hall, old parliament complex replica of Aukana Buddha statue, Galle face green, Panchamuga Anjaneyer Temple ect later do a city shopping.

City Tour: While on your city tour in Colombo you may visit famous places including Galle Face Green, the Viharamahadevi Park, National Museum, Twin World Trade Center towers, Old Parliament Building, Fort district, Independence Hall at Independence Square, and prominent Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Christian places of worship. (Entrance fees to sites not included). For shopping, you  may visit ODEL, House of Fashion, Beverly Street, Majestic City, Noritake, etc.

Day 8
Colombo - BIA
After breakfast and proceed to airport for departure.
